You can also use Disk Utility to run First Aid, repairing various problems affecting your Mac’s disk. You can use Disk Utility to partition, restore, or format different disks. What is Disk Utility First Aid?ĭisk Utility comes pre-installed on every Mac, and offers a way to manage and repair the various disks you might use: startup disks, storage volumes, and even external drives. Install MacKeeper to scan your Mac, fixing any existing issues and ruling out other potential problems before trying to repair the disk. Lots of the same symptoms can be caused by other problems, like a lack of storage or a malware infection. It isn’t always easy to diagnose a problem with your Mac disk, be it an HDD or an SSD. In this guide, we’ll show you how to use Disk Utility to run First Aid and repair any disks connected to your Mac. Luckily, Apple includes a handy tool you can use to repair your Mac: Disk Utility. I have uninstalled all non-mac apps except Roboform, I have zapped everything that can be zapped, I have had it crash in safe mode, I have run diagnostics with apple tech support and found nothing, I have reinstalled the system. You might need to repair your Mac disk if your computer won’t start up, apps keep freezing, you can’t open certain documents, or the performance has slowed to a halt. I have been having difficulty with this Mac since I got it (just out of the return period unfortunately) and I am trying to figure out what is wrong. Note when I look in the details about the corruption there is nothing listed as wrong. If I immediately run it again, or switch to another user and run it again, it will find the corruption. So, if I run disk utility immediately after a restart, (whether in repair or in any user account) it finds nothing. I finally figured out that it isn't running a repair from Recovery that temporarily fixes the corruption, it's the simple fact of restarting. When I then go back and run it from any user the corruption is still there. I then do as it says and run the repair from Recovery, which never finds anything wrong nor fixes anything. I get the message that Disk First aid has found corruption and needs to be repaired when running it on my main hard drive on my brand new MacBook Pro (running Mohave). Why did disk utility freeze at "preforming fsck_apfs -n -l -x /dev/rdisk1s1" and what can i do in the future if this happens again? Has anyone else ran into this issue with Disk Utility where they have to force shut down their mac just because it freezes up?ĭisk First Aid finds corruption the 2nd time it's run after restart. the reinstallation from recovery just finished and disk utility shows that everything is fine, but i do not know why this has happened. I decided to reboot into recovery mode, where i ran another disk utility first-aid(everything ok) and decided to reinstall the current version on macos high sierra. i would say this is a first, but unfortunately this has happened before about 2-3 weeks ago with the exact same issue. when in safe-mode i ran disk utility there before restarting back to normal first-aid showed everything was ok. i gave disk utility a good 10-15 minutes before i decided to force shut down my mac and boot it back up into safe-mode. unfortunately the disk utility got stuck on "preforming fsck_apfs -n -l -x /dev/rdisk1s1". I ran a quick first-aid with disk utility today just to make sure everything is running smoothly on my mac.
